CSBR recently hosted a timely and insightful webinar exploring the growing importance of cyber security and resilience skills in the UK.

Bringing together expert speakers from industry and policy backgrounds, the session examined how the changing geopolitical environment and evolving threat landscape are increasing the need for stronger cyber capability across all sectors. A central theme throughout the discussion was that cyber security must now be viewed as a whole-of-society issue rather than a niche technical function.

Speakers highlighted several priority areas, including:

· Defining baseline cyber competence for organisations, employees and citizens

· Strengthening leadership accountability at board and executive level

· Addressing entry-level barriers and creating clearer career pathways

· Improving diversity and inclusion across the cyber workforce

· Aligning education with industry needs

· Supporting SMEs with practical guidance and skills development

· Embedding a culture of resilience through awareness and training

The panel also explored the value of apprenticeships, mentoring, and transferable skills as practical ways to expand the talent pipeline and close persistent skills gaps.

The webinar reinforced that while the UK has made progress, there is a clear need to accelerate action. Building cyber resilience will require collaboration between government, education providers, employers and communities.

CSBR would like to thank all speakers and attendees for contributing to such an engaging and solutions-focused discussion.
